English Heritage
English Heritage, officially known as the English Heritage Trust, is a registered charity that looks after more than 400 historic sites and monuments across England. It became an independent charity on 1 April 2015, when the old government body of the same name was split in two: English Heritage took on the role of managing and opening historic properties to the public, while a separate body — Historic England — took over the regulatory and advisory functions. The sites in English Heritage’s care span thousands of years of history and include prehistoric monuments, Roman forts, medieval castles, abbeys, stately homes, and industrial landmarks.
